Parent's Support Group Meetings

The Association hosts meetings of support groups for parents of children with cerebral palsy. These provide parents with a forum to develop a peer support network with other parents, interact with specialist therapists and other professionals in an informal environment, obtain some useful practical tips and advice to help them cope on a daily basis, and interact with the Association in order to facilitate further assistance.

To support these groups, the Association has a network of speakers who address the meetings on practical topics on a rotating basis. These groups presently meet in Port Elizabeth, but will be expanded to Uitenhage and other areas in the Eastern Cape as needed and as resources permit.

Through KNOWCP, the Association also assists members of outlying communities to establish and generate their own PSG’s, as a primary community-based nucleus for support. KNOWCP and the Association also then help identify specific support needs for these groups, and facilitate provision of that support.
